East Ventures: Uplifting Indonesian Society Through The Digital Economy, a case study by the CIIP
As the largest venture capital (VC) fund in Indonesia, investing in early-to-growth stage digital solutions across Southeast Asia and Japan, East Ventures has invested in digital solutions that solve the pain points of local communities, including by increasing access to education and optimizing end-to-end logistics, creating seamless and safe payment processes, and democratizing access to commerce.
We believe digitalization is the key to creating a flywheel effect for impact. By helping to lay the foundations of Indonesia’s digital infrastructure, solutions will be more easily developed and delivered over time. Our portfolios are involved with developing Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and digital infrastructure in the industries it operates in, paving the way for other portfolio companies to offer their solutions.
We employ a “practical approach” to impact, strongly advising early-stage companies to first develop a strong core business. Strong founders and their teams can develop good products and business models. As the business becomes stronger, we continue to support them in developing more deliberate and focused impact strategies.
East Ventures was featured in the recent Centre of Impact Investing and Practices (CIIP) case study to serve as a tangible example of positive, measurable impact in Asia. This case study was developed by the CIIP as part of a collection of stories that aims to provide insights into the impact journey of investors and businesses in Asia.
