Grab Launches Green E-Scooter GrabWheels in Indonesia’s Top University

18 July 2019

Grab and Universitas Indonesia (UI) today announced the launch of GrabWheels, a green mobility solution at the university campus in Depok. The e-scooter is the latest in a series of collaborations between the two since May 2019.

Grab users can access GrabWheel service by downloading the GrabWheels beta app on their iOS or Android devices during the pilot period. They can unlock the e-scooter by scanning the barcode with the app and go to GrabWheels parking station at select locations within UI’s Campus in Depok. Once the user reaches his or her destination, the app will navigate them to the nearest parking station to return the e-scooter.

As per a press statement, during the pilot period Grab will focus on educating users on safety riding behaviours through in-app messages, such as wearing a helmet as a crucial safety feature.

“After launching GrabWheels in several major locations in Jabodetabek, we are pleased to be able to offer this service at UI’s Campus in Depok. Together with the university, we hope that GrabWheels can answer the needs of students, lecturers, and all UI academics for practical and environmentally friendly transportation options to get around campus,” said Ridzki Kramadibrata, President of Grab Indonesia,

First collaborated in May 2019, Grab and UI seek to support education, research, and community services at the university. In this collaboration, Grab, through its Grab Ventures Velocity programme, will also be a strategic partner for the development programme built by UI, to nurture startups focused in technology, medical, and social fields.

Grab is currently open to provide GrabWheels services in other locations in Jabodetabek area.
