July 14, 2021

East Ventures, a venture capital firm in Indonesia, collaborates with local and overseas stakeholders is raising US$ 1 million to purchase at least 1,000 oxygen concentrators through a collaborative movement, named Indonesia PASTI BISA (IDPB) Safeguards Oxygen. This movement is supported by Indonesia’s Ministry of Health, the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Singapore, Temasek Foundation, IndoTech SG, Indonesian Professionals Association Singapore (IPA SG), and KawalCOVID19. IDPB Safeguards Oxygen leverages technology capability of East Ventures’s portfolio companies in Indonesia, such as Bonza, Xendit, Waresix, Advotics, and IDN Media.

Indonesia Needs Oxygen Supplies

Indonesia has reported daily COVID-19 cases of more than 30,000 in recent days due to the rapid spread of coronavirus. The peak rise of COVID-19 infections has resulted in the oxygen supply shortage. Hospitals and health facilities are unable to get oxygen supply quickly.

Despite the limited supply, the distribution of medical oxygen has its own obstacles. Not all regions have medical oxygen distributors in their area. The process of mobilization and distribution also takes time, while hospitals and health facilities need oxygen immediately at the same time. The system of oxygen supply can run smoothly by ensuring that there are no obstacles from production to distribution, according to the government. The country is teetering on the edge of a COVID-19 catastrophe, thus fixing the distribution based on needs and creating an effective procurement system are urgently required.

Indonesian Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin said, “Since we are running against time, any measurable and massive movement will be very helpful. Indonesia’s Ministry of Health fully supports the Indonesian PASTI BISA movement by startup players, Indonesian diaspora and other communities. Hopefully, this transparent donation and logistics system is sustainable, and can be a small part of the health sector reformation by the Ministry of Health. Let’s unite and face this crisis.”

Collaborative movement for Indonesia

Founding Partner of East Ventures Willson Cuaca said, “In these difficult times, every small act of generosity will have an immediate impact. Every donation will ease the burden on the government and provide tangible help to society. Indonesia PASTI BISA is an integrated, measurable, transparent and accountable movement. We hope that this small movement can lead to a snowball effect. At this point of time, 1,000 units of oxygen concentrators is our minimum target. The more funds we can collect, the more machines we will be able to purchase with better sourcing.”

The oxygen concentrators are able to flow 10L/min 90+% of pure oxygen. The machines will be donated to hospitals and health facilities throughout Indonesia. East Ventures invites all parties to play an active role in saving thousands of lives of COVID-19 patients in Indonesia. The public can donate until 26 July 2021 by accessing indonesiapastibisa.com/oxygen.

“Real friends are those who are with you in both good and bad times. Indonesians need their friends to come together in these bad times.” Willson added.

IDPB Safeguards Oxygen is run based on principles of transparency, accountability, and accuracy. East Ventures will make sure that every party delivers their commitment and work based on a result-oriented principle. Progress and the result of the project will be continuously monitored through a newly built platform by East Ventures’ portfolio companies.

Bonza, a big data analytics company, utilizes its data platform to map and predict oxygen demand across Indonesia. Bonza leverages its end to end solutions to unify tracking across multiple platforms and provide maximum transparency and reliability across the whole process.

Xendit, a trusted and licensed fintech company, become the payment partners to provide and manage the fundraising platform. The fund will be disbursed directly to order oxygen concentrators for hospitals in need.

Waresix, a logistic tech startup, provides warehouses and distributes oxygen concentrators to hospitals in need across Indonesia.

Advotics, an Indonesian based SaaS startup specializing in supply chain, tracks ordered oxygen concentrators until it arrives at destination hospitals through QR Code. Current stock of oxygen supplies in each hospital is also visible by the technology of Advotics.

IDN Media is involved in reporting progress and result of the project weekly as well as providing relevant content. Every donation will be announced on the website.
